A typical 1st hour in a day in my life

How productive am I within an hour of waking up you may ask ...

Usually, a typical start of the morning for me is dragging myself out of my beautiful, comfort-giving bed after snoozing my alarm a million times. I always ensure that I have adequate alarms placed to avoid me oversleeping and getting late for whatever I have on the next day whether it be work or studies or life…

I have overly quoted to others that I am practically a grouch in the morning. “Good morning” is a rare comment that comes out of my mouth first thing in the morning because most of the time I would love to wrap myself back into my cosy blankets rather than proceeding on with my day. Rather than it being “good”, it is simply just “morning” without the “good.” Of course, as advised by my mother, I am encouraging myself to change my attitude towards morning and have been motivating myself to open my eyes to positivity and happiness.

After turning off my alarm, I make my bed. Without making my bed, I feel incomplete and seeing a spotless bed gives me delight and enhances my morning happiness. I then grab my glasses without which I am practically blind and therefore would be at an increased risk of walking into things or falling. However, because I am familiar with my house, I do not wear them until a bit later.

After leaving my bedroom, I make my way to my bathroom which is about 2 steps from my room. Although I am blind, I can still distinguish my clown-like features in the mirror with my hair falling in multiple directions, hardened tear streaks across my under-eyes and cheeks, and drool marks across my mouth and chin. I wash my face with preferably room temperature water if I have the patience to wait. In winter I will 80% wait for the water to heat up rather than having the initial cold splash of water from the tap anywhere near me.

Then I brush my teeth. Random fact about me is that I cannot, and I mean absolutely cannot stand my morning breath. One of the first things I do in the morning is brush my teeth before living the day. I just hate the feeling and smell of my unbrushed mouth. A lot of people I have talked to and watch on YouTube brush their teeth after eating breakfast which is a huge no for me. This could mainly just be because I have never really eaten breakfast, but I honestly think I would not be able to deal with myself with unbrushed teeth.

From my research, I believe that moistening straight after washing or showering enhances absorption and benefits of the moisturiser. Therefore, after drying my face slightly with a towel, while it is still damp-ish, but not overly wet, I moisturise my face using the dark blue tin of Nivea crème and apply Vaseline on my lips. These products work well for me.

Unnecessary TMI but peeing is a must in the morning to remove excess fluids from the body built up over the night. I guess whether I go to the bathroom, or the toilet first can alternate depending on urgency, but I do find myself going to the bathroom first most of the time.

After I feel a bit put together, I head to the kitchen to make myself the concoction which is the source of my energy to live, work, and do anything … COFFEE... When I was working in my previous job, we were connected to a café and got discounts so I would wake up extra early just to get cheaper coffee. But after about a year, I realised my coffee at home tasted better (less bitter and more sugarier). While a cup of full cream milk is heating in the microwave, I empty a Nescafe Cappuccino sachet into another cup, add 2 teaspoons of sugar and just shake it. After the cup has boiled, I add 2 to 4 spoons of hot milk into the shaken powder and mix it well to remove any powder or hardened particles until smooth. I then add the remainder of the hot milk, mix, and then pour into my nice drinking cup and coffee is done. I usually drink the coffee slowly while scrolling through Instagram reels on my phone or watching YouTube.

I don’t generally eat breakfast, but this is something I am trying to incorporate into my life to enhance energy and efficiency in life.

Routine is important in life to feel accomplished, and I usually follow this routine in the morning. Of course, if I snooze all my alarms and wake up late, then that would be a whole new 1st hour of the day for me, but we can probably talk about that in another post.

Now did I mention when I actually put my glasses back on…

Written with sincerity,

Me.
